A large sized raku fired bowl, by Sarah Horlock.
Hand decorated with a blue glaze with free-flowing brushwork. Fired to around 1000c then taken out of the kiln, causing the glazes to crack due to thermal shock. The pots are then placed into a smoking chamber filled with sawdust or shredded paper, which ignites and smokes and stains the bare clay and crackled glaze a beautiful smoky black.
