Medium white and black Raku bowl
A medium-sized raku fired bowl, by Sarah Horlock, with a turned foot ring, decorated with a striking organic motif in glossy white crackled glaze with a pink blush . Fired to around 1000c then taken out of the kiln, causing the glazes to crack due to thermal shock. The pots are then placed into a smoking chamber fillled with sawdust or shredded paper, which ignites and smokes and stains the bare clay and crackled glaze a beautiful smoky black. The stained clay surface and base has been sealed with beeswax.
