Small white and black Raku bowl
A small white and black raku fired bowl by Sarah Horlock with a turned foot ring and decorated with a striking black circular motif. Fired to around 1000c then taken out of the kiln, causing the glazes to crack due to thermal shock. The pots are then placed into a smoking chamber fillled with sawdust or shredded paper, which ignites and smokes and stains the bare clay and crackled glaze a beautiful smoky black. The stained clay surface and base has been sealed with beeswax.
