Back in the heady warmth of Summer 2023 we went to visit the super Jo Stafford in her Norwich Studio “Well Nice”.
Jo is a screen printer, illustrator and designer. Her work is big bold and largely typographic. From famous lyrics to iconic phrases and sayings, her screen prints and greetings cards can always be found adorning the Make Holt wall. When Jo isn’t creating her own pieces, you’ll find her at the screens printing other talented people’s work.
The Studio
Well Nice is an eco friendly, independent screen printing studio. The team have a combined printing experience of over 30 years and have a prestigious portfolio busting at the seams. When we popped by Jo allowed us to take some BTS shots of her and the team in action. Squeegee the lab is in charge (if that wasn’t already abundantly obvious).
Make Holt Postcard: Jo Stafford Edition
Since we first opened our doors we’ve always loved giving a small piece of ourselves to customers in the form of a postcard with each purchase. Whilst designed as a small (and useful) gesture, we’re alway amazed to hear so many people collect them!
Naturally Jo has well and truly broken the mould of those who went before; simply, but effectively in her stand-out typographic style. The combination of high impact orange with mixed typefaces reminds us of late 70s, early 80s punk gig posters and flyers — and we couldn’t be happier with the counter culture connection.
