Michael’s inspiration comes from wood. The textured feel. The colour and shape of the grain pattern. Even the sound and smell as it is cut and shaped. His work is strongly influenced by his time living in Japan. Using traditional and modern techniques, he creates quality, simple furniture and items for the kitchen and home. He uses locally sourced sustainable wood and natural products.
For twenty years, he worked as an acupuncturist and yoga teacher. After completing courses in joinery and furniture making, he applies his previous career skills to working with wood.
The name Bird on the Buddha comes from the view from Michael’s workshop.
